Szpilman's music played live by a company of actor-musicians. I cannot think of a better reason to go to the theatre this autumn.

The memoir has stayed with me for years, so a stage version built around Szpilman's own compositions was an instant booking. Thom Southerland's Titanic was stunning, and I expect the same care and craft here.

I have read the book and seen the film, but telling this story through music feels completely right. Szpilman survived through his playing, and the idea of actor-musicians carrying that on stage already gives me goosebumps. The first-look clips show a beautiful, intimate staging with the piano right at its heart. It is going to be emotional, so the tissues are packed. Booked for opening week with my dad, who first gave me the memoir.
Things to Know Before Booking The Pianist Tickets

What Your Ticket Includes
Your ticket covers entry to The Pianist at Park Theatre in the seat you select — the full performance of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Food, drink and anything not listed as included are extra.

Age Recommendations
Recommended for ages 12 and above. Under 16s must be accompanied by and seated with an adult. The story is set during the Nazi occupation of Warsaw and the Holocaust.

Best Time to Attend
Weekday evenings tend to be the quietest. Saturdays and the final weeks of this limited run are the first to sell out — book early if you have a date in mind.

Facilities
Park Pizza & Bar inside the theatre serves pizza and drinks before and after the show. Outside food is not allowed. Plenty of restaurants and cafés around Finsbury Park station are a couple of minutes' walk away.

Accessibility
Front-of-house areas are served by a lift, except the mezzanine. Park200 has two wheelchair spaces, there are accessible toilets with baby-changing facilities on the ground and first floors, sound-amplification headsets are available and assistance dogs are welcome. In the Park200 stalls, Rows A and B are one and two steps down and Row C is one step up from the auditorium entrance. Contact the theatre in advance to book wheelchair spaces.

How Long Do You Need at The Pianist in London?

The performance runs approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Allow around two hours at the theatre in total so you have time to clear security, grab a drink and find your seat without rushing.

Arriving at least 30 minutes before curtain-up is recommended. Latecomers will be asked to wait until a suitable break in the performance, and a suitable break cannot be guaranteed — so if you are eating beforehand at Park Pizza & Bar or around Finsbury Park, give yourself a clear half hour before the show.
